HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

North Royalton High School Senior Earns Congressional Award Silver Certificate
NRHS senior Albert Armin has officially met the challenge of the United States Congress by earning the Congressional Award Silver Certificate—a national honor recognizing initiative, service, and personal growth in America’s youth.  The Congressional Award, established into law in 1979, is the only charity of the United States Congress. Its purpose is to inspire, encourage, and celebrate young people who set and achieve meaningful goals. Open to youth ages 13½ to 23, the program challenges students to complete ambitious, self-directed targets in four key areas—Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.  Albert rose to the challenge with commitment, leadership, and a passion for serving others. To earn the Silver Certificate, participants must complete 60 hours of voluntary service, 30 hours of personal development, 30 hours of physical fitness, and a minimum two-day exploration of a new culture or environment.  Congratulations, Albert, on this prestigious achievement!

NRHS Senior Service Project
Senior Hayden Wanyerka is running a used and broken electronic device drive at NRHS in collaboration with the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.  The Western Lowland Gorilla of equatorial Africa is critically endangered and may become extinct within the next 100 years.  Gorillas share 99% of their DNA with humans, and so their loss could be catastrophic for science.  To help protect these animals and their habitat, we need to stop the mining of an ore called Coltan, which is typically found in many of today’s electronic devices.  Nearly 80% of the world’s Coltan comes from the Congo Basin, which is also the last stronghold of the Lowland Gorilla.  Please consider donating electronic devices to help save the gorillas.  Donation boxes will be in the ELA classrooms at NRHS.  This event will run through November 25, 2025.  Click here for more information.
